Unit 13 - MultiClip

In FCP you can take two or more clips and sync them together. Then you can watch the clip simultaneously and select which camera angle you want. Basically editing two or more cameras on the fly.

  1. Select the clips that you want to make into a multiclip.
  2. Modify > Make MultiClip
  3. Select the method you want to sync the clips. (In points, Out points, or timecode)
  4. Load the MultiClip into the Viewer
  5. Edit the MultiClip to the Timeline by setting an In and Out as you would on a normal clip
  6. Click the Red envelope on the Canvas to load the MultiClip in the Timeline
  7. Sync to run the Viewer and Timeline together
    • Put the playhead on the Timeline at the beginning of the MultiClip
    • Put the playhead on the Viewer at the In point (Shift + I)
    • Go the the top middle menu of the Viewer and select "Open"
  8. Determine where audio and video are coming from (Blue outline indicates video, Green indicates audio)
    • Go to the top middle menu of the Viewer and select "Audio"
    • Click on the camera you want to set at the audio track (a green outline shows up)
    • Go to the top middle menu of the Viewer and select "Video"
    • Click on the camera you want to use for video (a blue outline shows up)
  9. Now you can play the multiclip and use the mouse to select different cameras while watching the MultiClip. Once you stop the playhead the camera's you chose become edits.
  10. You can adjust the edits as if you were working with regular clips.
